Abstract
Tulisan ini adalah hasil penelitian yang menitikberatkan perhatian pada tradisi lisan yang ada dalam
acara pemakaman di Pohala 'a Gorontalo. Tulisan ini mengupas sinergitas antara adat dengan syariat —
yang mana sejak dahulu— Gorontalo dikenal sangat kental nuansa budaya dan agama dalam setiap
ritual kehidupannya. Penelitian ini berkesimpulan bahwa: Gorontalo adalah salah satu dari lima Pohala 'a
yang masih tetap eksis memengang teguh adatnya. Adat budaya Gorontalo sarat dengan nilai-nilai Islam,
khususnya dalam acara pohutu molalungo; terdapat 14 tradisi lisan yang sempat diinventarisir dan
dipetakan di Pohala'a Gorontalo; proses acara pohutu molalungo di Pohala'a Gorontalo sarat dengan
tradisi lisan; dan acara Pohutu molalungo di Pohala 'a Gorontalo terlihat adanya sinergitas antara adat
dan Syariat. Acara Pohutu Molalungo yang di dalamnya terdapat tuja'i dan tinilo dijadikan sebagai
media pendidikan oleh orang-orang Gorontalo.
