Peer Review Process

Al-Qalam publishes original research articles in the fields of religious studies, socio-cultural studies, and related disciplines. All submitted manuscripts undergo a rigorous double-blind peer review process, in which both the identities of the authors and the reviewers are concealed to ensure an objective, fair, and unbiased evaluation.

Each manuscript is initially evaluated by the Editorial Board to determine its suitability with the journal's aims and scope and to assess its overall quality. Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are assigned to at least two independent reviewers who are experts in the relevant field.

Reviewers are normally given two weeks to complete their evaluations. Based on the reviewers’ comments and recommendations, the Editorial Board will determine the editorial decision. Manuscripts requiring revision will be returned to the authors for improvement.

Authors are given approximately 2–4 weeks to revise manuscripts requiring major revisions, while manuscripts requiring minor revisions should be revised and resubmitted within one week.

The final publication decision is made by the Editor-in-Chief after carefully considering the recommendations of the reviewers and the editorial assessment.

Editorial Decisions

  • Accept – The manuscript is accepted for publication without any further revisions.
  • Minor Revision – The manuscript is accepted subject to minor revisions based on comments from the reviewers or editor. The revision period is typically 1–2 weeks (7–14 days), and the revised manuscript is evaluated by the editor or reviewer.
  • Major Revision – The manuscript may be accepted after the authors satisfactorily address the substantial comments and recommendations from the reviewers. The revision period is typically 2–4 weeks (14–30 days), and the revised manuscript is generally sent back to the reviewers for further review.
  • Revise and Resubmit – The manuscript requires significant revision and will undergo another round of peer review before a final decision is made.
  • Reject – The manuscript is rejected because it does not meet the journal's scientific standards, quality requirements, or scope.
